Waldorf, MD –ย Detectives from Charles County Sheriff’s Office recently charged Sherrie Hackett, 42 of Bowie and Julia Turner, 50 of District Heights with fraud, forgery, identity theft and theft.. These charges are as a result of the two suspects fraudulently renting homes in the Waldorf area.ย

Hackett and Turner targeted individuals looking to rent a home, usually individuals with poor credit or no credit history. Once the two suspects had a renter interested in a rental, they would ask for cash only for a least two months and a security deposit.ย

According to Detective Gelroy of Charles County Sheriff’s Office, “I checked Real Property Search database and found one of the listed residence was owned by a deceased couple. Their daughter [deceased couple] was the executor of the estate.”

Both Hackett and Turner have caused major issues for families who signed what they believed at the time was a legal leasing agreement provided by Hackett and Turner. New keys were made for homes that were broken into.

“I learned Sherrie Hackett possessed as two home owners/landlords to rent a house she had no right to rent. Hacket posed as another female in order to scam couples into paying rent,” said Gelroy.ย

There is a possibility that these might not be the only families affected. Detectives believe additional home rental frauds could be a result of Hackett and Turner’s alleged scam.ย

“All events occured in Charles County, MD,” said Gelroy.ย

A summons was issued to both Hackett and Turner on Oct. 9. a preliminary hearing has not been set yet.
