On Tuesday, July 7, those attending the Calvert Marine Museumโ€™s production of Styx and .38 Special will be in for a splendid treat. Opening for the venerable bands is a young guitarist and his band, Tyler Bryant.

It is not often that an opening act generates the kind of buzz and excitement that young Bryant does. The 18 year old prodigy has been playing guitar since he was seven and has played with the likes of Slash, Santana, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, ZZ Top and other guitar and music legends.

In a recent interview with TheBAYNET.com from his current location in Nashville, TN, Bryant explained that he just loves music and knew that was to be his lifeโ€™s calling from a very young age.

Bryant is also a prolific song writer. On July 7, the charismatic rocker will perform many of his original tunes including Lipstick Wonder Woman, Nobody, Save Me, All Night Long and more. โ€œDepending on how long the set, we may not play more than one or two covers,โ€ said Bryant.

When asked about his level of success, Bryant stated that his mother used to worry about him because, as a younger child, he would stay in and practice his guitar instead of going out to be with his peers the same age.

โ€œI met a blues guitarist, Roosevelt Twitty when I was young and used to hang out at his house where we would sit and listen to music and work on different riffs and jam,โ€ said Bryant when asked about the influences in his life.
โ€œI have a bluesy style, but primarily the band plays rock and roll. It just seems that I can let my soul come through my music more with my songs.โ€

Bryant has received many accolades for his playing. The guitarist who admits he has never had any formal lessons acknowledges that he has been fortunate. โ€œThere are a million kids like me that are talented that may not have the same opportunities that I have had,โ€ said Bryant.

When asked for his advice to young musicians that want to succeed in the business, Bryant stated, โ€œMake good music, write good songs and never give up.โ€

Bryant has been called: โ€œ โ€ฆ an extraordinary virtuoso electric guitarist, a singer, songwriter, a compelling stage presence, a burgeoning musical alchemist freely intermingling rock, blues, soul/funk and pop.โ€

The young musician said that he is very grateful to Styx and .38 Special for making room for him at their concerts. โ€œThey are great guys and have been very good for me and I am thankful they make room so I can play my songs.โ€
