UPDATE
Silver Spring, MD – Montgomery County Fire Department (MCFD) officials reported Thursday, Aug. 11 that two bodies have been recovered from the debris following a late-night explosion that heavily damaged two multi-story apartment buildings. The buildings were located on Piney Branch Road.
According to MCFD officials, several residents remain unaccounted for and over 30 people were transported to hospitals with injuries.
The explosion occurred shortly before midnight. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is assisting in the investigation of the explosion, which hurled debris to locations at least a block away from the two four-story complexes.
None of the names of the dead have been released at this time.
Silver Spring, MD – Montgomery County Fire Department officials confirm at least five people are reported missing and approximately 30 people have been injured as a result of an explosion and fire that occurred shortly before midnight Wednesday, Aug. 10. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.
Approximately 90 residents of two four-story apartment buildings have reportedly been displaced.
Fire crews and police remain at the scene of the three-alarm fire.
