Update from the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department

At approximately 4:22 p.m. May 5 Calvert and St. Mary’s Fire and EMS stations were alerted to a head-on collision at the base of the Thomas Johnson bridge on the Saint Mary’s side.

Rescue 3 and Ambulance 37 from the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department responded to the scene.

Once on scene crews met up with Lexington Park Ambulance 387 and began securing the vehicles and evaluating the patients.

Ambulance 387 transported one patient to be airlifted by Trooper 7 and Ambulance 37 transported a patient to the local ER all with non-life threatening conditions.

Engine 291 secured a landing site on Route 4 and Rescue 3’s crew remained on scene cleaning up debris and securing the scene.

All units cleared approximately an hour and half later.


May 5 UPDATE: One person was reported to have been flown out by Maryland State Police helicopter. Traffic reopen at 6:02 p.m.


May 5, 4:24 p.m.

There has been a reported accident on the Thomas Johnson Bridge on the St. Mary’s County side. Please use caution in the area.

Patuxent Beach Road (Route 4) is temporarily closed due to the accident.
