UPDATE June 2 at 2 p.m.

On June 1, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accidentย  on northbound Route 235 in California.ย 

The driver, Fernando Garcia, 27 years of age, with no fixed address, fled the scene, however returned a short time later.ย  It was determined that the Victim, Kimberly Figgins, 20 of Mechanicsville, jumped from the moving vehicle and traveled approximately 75-100 feet along the roadway.ย 

She was flown to Prince Georges County Shock Trauma for her injuries by Trooper 7 and is listed in stable condition. St. Maryโ€™s County BCI detectives responded and assumed the investigation. Garcia was charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident. He was incarcerated at the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing.


Unconfirmed reports are that a female victim that was flown out by Trooper 7 with severe trauma after getting involved in a domestic dispute while traveling northbound on Route 235 and leaping from the vehicle in which she was riding. The incident, which closed 235 northound was originally reported as a potential hit-and-run accident.

What was originally reported as a hit-and-run with reconstruction teams in place is now known to be a BCI investigation with a team working the scene. The authorities were on the lookout for a dark sedan which is a vehicle of interest for this accident.
