On Wednesday, Feb. 10 shortly after 9 a.m., just as the winds were beginning to pick up with driving snow, the Loffler Center located at 21905 Chancellor’s Run Road in Great Mills suffered another collapsed roof under what is believed to be a heavy snow load.

Witnesses on the scene report the building’s walls are standing, but a large part of the roof is completely destroyed and that there is about two inches of water covering everything from what is thought to be a damaged sprinkler system.

The Loffler Center, houses the Loffler Senior Activity Center (one of three Senior Activity centers in the county) and other services. Efforts are underway to shore up the facility, although efforts are impeded by the current blizzard.

Authorities are on the scene assessing the situation. No injuries have been reported. One official on the scene reported that the building was in good condition after being checked for damage only yesterday.

TBN will provide more detail as it is receive from authorities.
