The St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision, which occurred on June 26, 2010 at approximately 11:17 p.m. at the intersection of St. Johns Road and Three Notch Road in Hollywood.

Preliminary, the investigation reveals, vehicle #1 a 2003 Nissan Sentra, operated by Mary Ernell Butler, 81 of Mechanicsville, was attempting to turn northbound on Three Notch Road from St Johns Road.ย Vehicle #2, a 2009 Toyota Camry, operated by Wade Christian Wathen, 45 of Lexington Park, was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road.ย
Butler failed to yield right of way and pulled into the path of vehicle #2 causing a collision.ย Butler died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.ย Wathen was flown from the scene to Prince Georges Hospital Center by Maryland State Police Helicopter, Trooper 7.ย Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.ย
The Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded and is continuing the investigation.ย Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact DFC Timothy Reese at (301) 475 4200 Ext. 9115.
One Dead in Hollywood Crash
Authorities in St. Mary’s County are investigating a fatal crash that has left one woman dead and one man seriously injured.
Rescue crews responded to the 24200 block of Three Notch Road and St. John’s Road in Hollywood on Saturday, June 26 around 11:15 p.m.
Crews arrived on the scene to discoverย two vehicles invovledย with two serious injuries reporting at least one trapped. After further evaluation, one patient was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigation revealedย the female driver of aย red Nissan Sentra pulled out into southbound traffic from St. John’s Road onto on Route 235 striking aย red Toyota Priusย causing a collision.
MSP Trooper 7 was called to fly out the second crash victim, the driver of the Toyotaย to Prince Georges Shock Trauma for his injuries.
No word on his condition at this time. The identities of the crash victims have not yet been released.
This accident remains under investigation.
