Prince Frederick, MD – State officials reported a house fire that occurred Friday afternoon, Feb. 20 on Diane Court in Prince Frederick was caused by an electrical malfunction. The Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office estimated the total loss of the two-story, wood-framed structure and its contents was $125,000.
โThe fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a second-floor bedroom.โ Dfm. John Nelson stated. โThe fire caused moderate damage to the house, displacing the nine occupants of the home. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.โ
The fire marshalโs office identified the homeowner as Chester Hutchins. The fire, which was reported at 4:40 p.m., was discovered by an occupant of the home.
Thirty-five firefighters from Prince Frederick, Benedict, Huntingtown and St. Leonard were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 10 minutes.
No injuries were reported.

On Feb. 20 at 4:32 p.m., Company 2 was alerted for a house fire. Engine 22, Engine 21, Tower 2, Squad 2, Tanker 2, and Chief 2C responded to a house on Diane Court. Units arrived and found a two-story, split-level with fire showing. Crews found a fire in the back bedroom with extension to the attic. Company 2 units operated for two hours.
