Prince Frederick, MD – State officials reported a house fire that occurred Friday afternoon, Feb. 20 on Diane Court in Prince Frederick was caused by an electrical malfunction. The Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office estimated the total loss of the two-story, wood-framed structure and its contents was $125,000.

โ€œThe fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a second-floor bedroom.โ€ Dfm. John Nelson stated. โ€œThe fire caused moderate damage to the house, displacing the nine occupants of the home. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.โ€

The fire marshalโ€™s office identified the homeowner as Chester Hutchins. The fire, which was reported at 4:40 p.m., was discovered by an occupant of the home.

Thirty-five firefighters from Prince Frederick, Benedict, Huntingtown and St. Leonard were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 10 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

On Feb. 20 at 4:32 p.m., Company 2 was alerted for a house fire. Engine 22, Engine 21, Tower 2, Squad 2, Tanker 2, and Chief 2C responded to a house on Diane Court. Units arrived and found a two-story, split-level with fire showing. Crews found a fire in the back bedroom with extension to the attic. Company 2 units operated for two hours.
