Since the last ACCREDIGRAM, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office experienced its formal Mock Assessment which occurred December 11, 2006 through December 13, 2006. Lt. Phillip Kasten, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office; Mr. John Vail, Kent County Sheriff’s Office and Captain Barbara Hopkins, Annapolis City Police Department were the mock assessors.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office CALEA team decided to conduct their mock assessment exactly as if it were an on-site assessment. This included mailing the standard folders to the assessors prior to the mock, a statistic display, agency tour, panel review and active demonstration during the mock assessment.
The assessors made several positive comments. None of the assessors had ever experienced a mock assessment conducted in the same fashion as an on-site assessment, and were impressed with the concept. Again, none of the assessors had ever experienced an active demonstration as a means to prove standard compliance. At least one assessor stated that he would use an active demonstration in the future to prove compliance for his agency’s CALEA program.
