ย There were few upsets over the weekend as the road to the state championship continues. In 4-A, both Great Mills boys and girls advanced to the next round with victories. The girls beat Glen Burnie 53-30 and the boys beat South River in a close game 52-39. In other 4-A action locally, Both Leonardtown’s boys and girls lost. The boys hung tough for three quarters but lost to Meade at home 60-39. The girls traveled to Broadneck and were defeated 56-25. North Point boys and girls had first round byes and will face Meade and Arundel respectively.In the 3-A division, the Chopticon girls continue their hot run, knocking off Crossland after being down by 10 points at halftime, by a final score of 67-59.The Lady Braves will play at Westlake tomorrow night at 7pm. In 3-A boys games, Huntingtown upset Thomas Stone 36-35 and will play at LaPlata tonight. Lackey beat Chopticon 61-51 and will travel to Northern tonight. Westlake beat Crossland 52-50 and will play at Friendly tonight. In 2-A Boys,ย McDonough beat Calvertย 58-57 and will face Frederickย Douglass.Central beat Patuxent 64-49 The ladies 3-A games include Thomas Stone’s 52-34 victory overย LaPlata andย Northern’s 61-55ย win over Lackey In 2-A Girls, Marriots Ridge beat Patuxent 53-40 andย will play at Calvert tomorrow. McDonough knocked off Central 56-31 and willย play at Gwynn Park tomorrow.

It’s not quite March but, the madness has begun throughout Maryland as statewide basketball playoff games tip off tonight.Every team in the state gets into the playoffs and after the top four seeds are set all rankings are decided by a blind draw.In the 4-A East Division both the North Point boys and girls have top seeds and first round byes.The Boys finished the regular season perfect at 22-0 and will play the winner of the Meade at Leonardtown (1-21) next.The Girls finished first in SMAC with an 18-3 overall record and will face the winner of the Old Mill at Arundel game in the second round.Coach Peck’s Great Mills Hornet boys finished their regular season at 12-10 and will face Glen Burnie at home for their first round game.The Great Mills Girls (8-13) face off at home against Glen Burnie and the winner of that game will face the winner of Leonardtown (6-16) at Broadneck.
The 3-A South is full of SMAC teams with The Westlake Girls holding a No. two seed after finishing their regular season at 17-5. They will face the winner of the Crossland at Chopticon (14-8) matchup. Coach Evans has her girls playing their best basketball of the season at the right time, as they won at Westlake just over a week ago. The Lady Braves are led by Freshman point guard Ty Priest, outside shooting threat Kirsten Norris and low post players Bre Brown and Ayshia Short. Other girls action includes Lackey (9-14) at Northern (9-13) and LaPlata (2-21) at Thomas Stone (7-15). The Huntingtown girls are seeded third and will play at Friendly in the second round. The 3-A South Boys has Northern(17-5) seeded second. The Patriots will face the winner of Lackey (8-14) at Chopticon (7-15) in the second round. LaPlata is seeded third and will face the winner of the Thomas Stone (13-9) at Huntingtown (11-11) matchup.The Westlake (13-10) boys are seeded eighth and play Crossland in their first round matchup.
The Calvert Lady Cavaliers are the class of the 2-A South with a 20-2 record and will face the winner of Patuxent (1-19) vs Marriotts Ridge in round two. Calvert travels to McDonough (12-10) to match up with the Lady Rams. The Patuxent (3-19) Boys, led by the three point shooting of Brandon Durbin are at home against Central with the winner heading up to tip off against top seed Oakland Mills in
