ย UPDATE March 11 at 4 p.m.
Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested a Chesapeake Beach man for setting fire to his parents home located at 3307 Cox Road. Jeremy W. Perfitt (21), who lived with his parents, was taken into custody on March 10, at the site of the burned home without incident.
Reportedly, Perfitt set fire to the house after arguing with his parents.
Perfitt is charged with First-Degree Arson. If he is found guilty of this felony he could be sentenced to a maximum
of 30 years imprisonment, fined not more than $50,000 or both.
Arson Destroys Family’s Home in Chesapeake Beach
On Friday, March 5, at approximately 2:25 p.m., over 35 firefighters fromย North Beach, Dunkirk, Huntingtown, Prince Frederick andย Deale VFD’ย responded to 3307 Cox Road in Chesapeake Beach for a house fire.
First units arriving on the scene discovered a working house fire.ย Firefighters made attack on the fire, which appeared to be initiated from the kitchen area and then subsequently spread to different areas single family, single story home.
Once the fire was under control, firefighters had overhaul duty to clean out debris.
The American Red Cross was called to theย scene to assist the the Perfitt family of five.
Thereย were no reports of injuries.
The homeowners did report that there were three cats in the residence. Only one was found alive,ย the other two cats were unaccounted for at the time of this report. The fireย resulted inย $100,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire is believed to be arson.
