Charles County Sheriffโ€™s detectives have obtained an arrest warrant charging Lavon DeWayne Chisley, 49, of Bryans Road with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property and carrying a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection with a domestic-related assault that occurred on July 22 in the 3000 block of Charleton Court in Waldorf.

Chisley is charged with assaulting a 58-year-old woman with whom he had a relationship.ย 

Officers responded to the house after a resident called 911 three times and relayed information of a fight in progress. Two officers arrived at the house simultaneously and observed Chisley and the woman in the front yard.

Chisley was holding a knife in his hand and appeared agitated. Officers gave verbal commands to Chisley to drop the knife but he refused. Instead, Chisley continued walking in a forward motion toward one of the officers.

The officer, fearing for his life, discharged his firearm one time striking Chisley in the abdomen. Afterwards, the officer approached, pushed the knife out of reach and secured Chisley until additional officers arrived and provided first aid.

Chisley was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition. The officer involved in the shooting, PFC Jose Marti, has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience and is a nine year veteran of the CCSO. He was placed on administrative leave in accordance with agency policy.ย

Waldorf, MD –ย On Thursday afternoon, July 23, additional information was received about the police officer-related shooting incident that occurred In Charleton Court in Waldorf Wednesday evening.

According to Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson, โ€œthe man and woman who were involved in the domestic dispute were boyfriend and girlfriendโ€.

The boyfriend, who has not been identified, is believed to be a Bryans Road resident.

โ€œNeighbors heard the police say multiple times to drop the knifeโ€ Richardson said. โ€œThe knife was approximately 14 inches in lengthโ€.

The police where contacted three separate times, with the urgency increasing after every call.

According to Richardson โ€œthe caller was heard stating that some could be killed.โ€


Waldorf, MD — Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Department officers responded on July 22 at 6:45 p.m. to the 3000 block of Charleton Court in Waldorf for the report of a domestic dispute between a man and a woman.

As officers responded, they received an update from dispatchers that the dispute had turned violent and the man was assaulting the woman. Two officers arrived on the scene within minutes and approached the residence. They were confronted by an adult male suspect who was in the driveway and armed with a knife. The man appeared agitated and refused several commands to drop the weapon. The suspect moved toward one of the officers who, fearing for his life discharged his firearm striking the suspect at least once in the abdomen. Officers secured the knife and then provided first aid to the man. The suspect, who was alert and conscious, was flown to a hospital.

The woman was treated on the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. None of the officers were injured.

The officer involved is a nine-year-veteran of the agency and is assigned to patrol. Charges are pending against the suspect.ย  Anyone with additional information is asked to call Det. J. Elliott at (301) 609-6515. The investigation is continuing.
