ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Annapolis Police Department hasย seen a recent increase in thefts from vehicles and attempted thefts from vehicles in Annapolis. Areas that have been affected include Yachtsmans Way, Windwhisper Lane, Forest Hills Avenue, Bricin Street, Langdon Court, Bay Ridge Avenue, Sixth Street, Washington Street, Franklin Street, and Granada Avenue.

In most cases, thieves enter vehicles through unlocked doors, so securing your vehicle is an important way to prevent thefts. Make a habit of locking your car all the time.

Another important thing to do is to remove valuables from your vehicle. Most of these thieves walk down the road, or through parking lots, and look to see if there is property in a vehicle and if the doors are unlocked. If your vehicle is empty and the doors are locked, thieves may move on to the next vehicle. Thieves look for items such as phones, tablets/laptops, GPS units, purses, wallets, sunglasses or other items such as prescription medication, so secure your valuables.

Also, we encourage you to call the police if you see suspicious persons walking or driving through your neighborhood. If you see someone walking through your neighborhood in the middle of the night, they might be up to no good, and we can come and check them out. Donโ€™t wait until the morning to call us because if you do, the suspects will be long gone. Some of these thefts have occurred during the day, so be alert for people checking vehicle door handles, looking into cars, or walking on to your or your neighborโ€™s property. Please talk to your neighbors about this topic so they can join us in preventing these crimes.

Report suspicious activity immediately by calling 410-268-4141 or 9-1-1.
