Authorities in St. Mary’s County are investigating a motor vehicle accident in California that occurred on Saturday, July 31 shortly after 4 a.m.
Rescue crews responded to the 22700 Block of Three Notch Road near Chancellors Run Road for report of a vehicle rollover with injuries. Crews arrived on the scene to discover aย Mitsubishiย Eclipse on its roof with no occupants inside the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed, a tractor-trailer was taking off from the stoplight when a female driver in the Eclipse was driving at a high rate of speedย South bound onย Route 235 and struck the rear of the tractor-trailer then lost control, flipped over, struck a pole where it then landed on its roof.
When police and fire arrived on the scene, there was no driver inside the vehicle. The female driver came walking over from Sheetz with a cup of water in her hand. Witnesses on the scene say the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
The driver was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where police conducted a blood kit to check the driver’s blood alcohol level.
No word if any charges were made.
