La Plata, MD – Thieves are up to their old ways in Charles County and that is not good news for motorists. Police in Southern Marylandโ€™s largest jurisdiction reported several thefts from parked motor vehicles Jan. 29 and 30.

Captain Christopher Becker of the La Plata Police Department confirmed that calls came in from citizens during the midday hours of Monday reporting the forced entry of vehicles at the La Plata Park and Ride on Washington Avenue. There were more reports of break-ins Tuesday. โ€œSeveral vehicles were damaged, all were locked, with the suspect forcing entry into the vehicles,โ€ Becker told TheBayNet.com. The officer added that a citizen in the area saw someone in the lot peering inside the vehicles. That unidentified individual fled the area on foot.

Once inside the vehicles, perpetrator(s) rummage around for gift cards and loose change. La Plata police are urging all vehicle owners to secure and hide valuables.ย
