According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the first fire was discovered Dec. 18 on Mattawoman Drive in Waldorf. โThe fire occurred sometime in the overnight hours between Dec. 17 and Dec. 18,โ a deputy fire marshalโs report stated. โThe vehicleโs engine compartment and passenger area were completely destroyed by the fire.โ
Four volunteer firefighters were dispatched but the blaze had already been extinguished.

A second vehicle fire was reported Dec. 22 on Crain Highway (US Route 301) in Waldorf. A 2006 GMC 16-foot bot truck owned by Southern Maryland Pawn Brokers sustained $500. No injuries were reported.
โThe owner of the truck discovered the front driverโs seat partially burned when he went to check on the truck at approximately 9:30 a.m. Dec. 22,โ a deputy fire marshal reported. โThe box truck had been parked in the lot behind the pawn shop and not used for about three weeks, so he had no idea when the damage actually occurred.โ
