A family has been displaced after an accidental fire caused by a kerosene heater completely destroyed their home in Lexington Park, Tuesday afternoon.ย
On Jan. 22, around 12:40 p.m., crews from several area departments were alerted to reports of a house fire on the 20900 block of Olympia Court, Lexington Park. Upon arrival they found a two-story house with fire and smoke coming from the structure. During the firefight, the home’s roof collapsed and crews continued the battle from the exterior. Fortunately no injuries were reported but authorities say approximately $350,000 worth of damage was caused by the fire.ย
An investigation by a deputy of the Fire Marshal revealed the cause of the fire to be the result of combustible materials being too close to a kerosene heater. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.ย

At approximately 2:15 p.m. the fire was reported to be out. The Red Cross has been notified to assist the homeowners. An investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal is pending.ย
