PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Office of the State Fire Marshall is investigating an explosion that sent two to the hospital and destroyed a home in Prince Frederick, Monday, May 28. Around 11:00 a.m., units led by the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 4000 Sparkleberry Court, Prince Frederick for the report of a house fire.

Initial reports claimed an explosion was heard and fire was visible. Upon arrival crews discovered a one-story, single family home fully engulfed in flames. 60 firefighters began attacking the fire from the exterior and had the flames under control in 15 minutes.
The homeowners, William and Tracy Gash were found in their neighbor’s driveway and were transported to MedStar Washington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The total cost of damage is estimated to be $350,000. Photoย Courtesy of FF Jason Deale

According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the homeowners arrived home an smelt a strange odor. As they were investigating the source of the odor, an explosion triggered within the basement. They were helped from the home by their neighbors.
Authorities are currently investigating what caused the incident.
