After vanquishing Poolesville High School in a hotly contested championship game, braving a polar vortex to accept a proclamation was a pretty simple task for the Patuxent High School (PHS) Volleyball team. The squad and two coaches were recognized Tuesday, Jan. 7 by the Calvert County Commissioners. The team had been originally scheduled to receive the recognition last month. However, a winter storm that closed schools delayed the ceremony.

โThese girls are fighters, they are intelligent, too,โ said Head Coach Kevin Keller.

Late last year, the 11-member squad topped Poolesville 3-2 to win the Maryland Class 2A Volleyball Championship.
The teamโs seniors each indicated college was in their future plans although a few were uncertain they would be playing volleyball collegiately.

Assistant Coach Sean Benedik told the board he felt honored to work with the team and was proud of their success.
โThey will achieve great things in their lives,โ Keller predicted.
