Solomons, MD – For over three decades early December finds community of Solomons all aglow in the Christmas spirit. The 31st annual Solomons Christmas Walk was held Thursday, Dec. 3 to Saturday, Dec. 5.
Visitors to the town, located where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Patuxent River, spend the evening walking the streets and sidewalks, visiting the many Solomons Island businesses, homes and churches. According to the Solomons Business Association (SBA), decorated homes and participating businesses are in the running for the “Best Dressed” competition. “Criteria include the use of lights, general appearance, personal appeal [and] creativity,” a SBA event synopsis stated.
On Friday evening, Dec. 4, Santa Clause arrived by fire truck for the official tree lighting at the Solomons Riverwalk pavilion. Other children’s activities were held throughout town.
Saturday evening, Dec. 5, the ever-popular Solomons Lighted Boat Parade was held. The event was hosted by the SBA along with the Solomons Island Yacht Club, Solomons Yachting Center, Zahniser’s Yachting Center, Sail Solomons and the Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron. The parade has a competitive component, as prizes were awarded to the lit-up vessels deemed to display the Best Original Theme plus the Best Sail Boat, Best Power Boat and Best of Show.
