LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – In response to COVID-19, self-forming teams in Southern Maryland are demonstrating the spirited collaboration and adaptive thinking that are hallmarks of innovative communities. A three-part webinar series is being hosted throughout June and July, to take lessons from these teams and unleash the talent and resources of all who want to help Southern Maryland thrive, in this crisis and beyond it.
“This is something unique in that it is an opportunity to showcase actual, tangible examples of the innovative and creative forces that we all know exist here in our region,” Katherine Stormont from the St. Mary’s County Department of Economic Development said in an email. “Instead of the theoretic conversations, this effort kicks off with success stories of how smart, caring people came together and figured out how to respond to the needs emerging from the COVID crisis.ย It then goes on to offer a โMaster Classโ on how to form these type of teams and to collectively identify areas of need within the community.”
In the first webinar, Innovating in Crisis, three local success stories of collaboration and innovation to support those on the front lines and others in crisis will be prominently featured. Attendees will also share and discover additional community needs.
Matt Scassero, Director of the University of Maryland UAS Test Site, and Kevin Switick, CEO of AVIAN, will lead each webinar from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The webinar dates are as follows:
- June 9
- June 16
- July 14
“Our hope is to enable others to think about how to become engaged in responding to problems by using skills and ideas gained from this discussion,” Stormont said.
This series is organized by the smART Collaboration Working Group, with members representing government, industry, academia and non-profit organizations.
