Week two of the SMAC Football season brought much excitement and is beginning to show the balance of power among the league.

Calvert (1-1) got a hard-fought victory 14-7 over a Great Mills Hornets (1-1) team that scored 47 points against Thomas Stone just a week earlier. After a scoreless first quarter, the Cavaliers scored on a three yard TD run by CJ Cannon. Just before the half, Jordan Hurt hooked up with Smith on a 75 yard TD strike tying the score at seven. Ray Hayes capped off the scoring with the game winning 2 yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Hayes finished the day with 75 yards on 22 carries for Calvert.

Huntingtown (2-0) rolled again in week two over Northern (0-2) 35-6. The Hurricanes have outscored their opponents 76-12 in the first two games, and were led again by their senior QB Justin Bittner, who finished the game 8 of 14 for 153 yards passing and 3 passing TDโ€™s. Two of those were to Gabe Stewart including a 56 yarder and the other was an 18 yard strike to David Riddle. Davonte Fletcher led all rushers with 105 yards rushing on 13 carries and two TDโ€™s. Andrew Bose got the other score on a 4 yard run and added 12 tackles on defense.

Despite only completing one of 12 passes all game McDonough (2-0) knocked off Westlake (1-1) 24-14 as their QB Aquil Michaux made up for the lack of a passing attack with two rushing TDโ€™s. Justin Brooks led all rushers for McDonough with 82 yards on 18 carries.

In a very physical and penalty filled game, Patuxent (2-0) beat Leonardtown (1-1) 41-0. QB Ed โ€˜Gooseโ€™ Massengill led the Panthers with 3 passing TDโ€™s completing 12 of 15 for 180 yards. Papa Johnโ€™s Player Colin Gantt caught two TDโ€™s and Tyler Austin caught the other. Patuxent also scored on the ground twice with Jordan Haines and Rafiq Douglas hitting pay dirt. The Patuxent defense has not allowed a point in their first two games.

The final game of the weekend took place in Brandywine on Saturday as the Chopticon Braves (1-1) traveled to Gwynn Park (1-1). The Yellow Jackets had a 16 game regular season winning streak stopped by a powerful Braves defense. 16 seconds into the game DB Sterling Miles jumped the route and streaked 37 yards down the sideline for a pick six. After tying the score on a 3 yard passing TD from QB Zach Jefferson to Brandon Banks, the Braves won the field position battle before finally putting up an offensive TD on a one yard QB keeper by Cody Douglas. Terhan Watson led the defense in the second half with a 45 yard interception return for a TD. Gwynn Parkโ€™s player of the game Brandon Banks picked off Douglas and scored from 75 yards out to make the final score close at 21-14. Chopticonโ€™s Papa Johnโ€™s Co-Players of the game were Nick Landavazo and Sterling Miles.
