Who were those people on the roof of the Dunkinโ Donuts on Route 235 in California? Not to worry; they were cops and their friends. This weekend was the 4th Annual Cops-On-Rooftops, a statewide fundraising effort for Special Olympics, which is organized by St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office Detective David Alexander.
Detective Alexander and the Dunkinโ Donuts franchise owner, Maria Icaza organized Cops-On-Rooftopsย event not only to raise money for Special Olympics, but also awareness. Special Olympics provides children with special needs with a chance to participate in extracurricular activities throughout the state of Maryland Those who donated $5 received a free medium hot or iced coffee; $20 donated and you received a free half dozen of donuts and $50 donated got you a free 1 lb. bag of coffee.
Several officers from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department and the St. Mary’s County Detention Center participated this year. Participants included Detective Alexander, who coordinated and provided the vehicles, and Correctional Officers, Poole, Luffy, and Oresik. Also deputies William Raddatz and Angela Delozier stood on the roof of Dunkin Donuts, waving to passersby.
Many children put their “donut” money in the donation jar to help out Special Olympics.
ย There was also a silent auction of donated items from Blairโs Jewelers, Tantastic Tanning, AT&T, and Davidโs Flowers and Fuzzy Farmers Market in Leonardtown. The sheriffโs office donated badges and a hat. In all $1,524 was raised, not including the silent auction items.
United Rentals donated the lift to get the folks on the roof.
