Within 10 minutes after the bombings at the Boston Marathon Shannon Petitjean was on the phone. โI was pretty devastated,โ she said of her initial reaction. But instead of moping, she sprang into action.
Proving that one person can indeed make a difference, she started organizing a walk/run to show solidarity with those killed and injured and for the iconic race itself.
Petitjean has run half marathons but is not a member of any racing club. When she started she thought there would be only a handful of people responding. Instead an impressive group of walkers and runners, including babies in strollers and dogs on leashes, showed up at the Wildewood Center early Sunday morning.
The 5k walk/run left the center and proceeded down Wildewood Parkway and back. Participants wore signs saying โWe are all Boston Marathoners at heart.โ
Upon their return the participant were provided food and drink. And they sent a message that the country and the community will not be intimidated by terrorists.
