California, MD– On Dec 12, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jason Smith responded to the Best Buy store located on Worth Avenue in California for the report of a theft in progress.ย 

A loss prevention employee had contacted the sheriff’s office, reporting she confronted a pair of females, according to charging documents, “one had complied and stayed and the other had fled the store with a pair of tablets.”ย 

Smith was able to view the store’s video surveillance system while inside the loss prevention office. “When the video was opened, I (Smith) instantly recognizedย the defendant as Jessica A. Bonacci, 31, of Great Mills,” according to charging documents.ย 

Smith has had numerous professional contacts with Bonacci through a variety of law enforcementย and medical responses. Smith observed Bonacci, carrying a red tote bag into an aisle, open two boxes containing Flex Android tablets and placed the tablets in the red tote bag.ย 

Bonacci was charged with theft less than $1,000. Bonacci has a scheduled hearing May 5 in District Court. Bonacci faces a maximum jail sentence of one year and six months and/or a maximum fine of $500.ย
