Waldorf, MD — In the first inning of Tuesdayโs game between the Blue Crabs and the York Revolution, the Blue Crabs struck first when right fielder Fred Lewis coasted home on a sacrifice fly by teammate Zach Wilson. The next batter, Jovan Rosa blasted a two- run home run over the left field wall and splashed into the pool in left center. The Blue Crabs held a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
However, that was all they could muster offensively as their bats lost all their life. After the first inning, the Blue Crabs only had three hits. York got on the scoreboard in the top of the second on a lead-off home run by Bryan Pounds.ย Pounds struck again in the top of the fourth on another solo home run down the right field line to cut the lead to 3-2. The Revolution tied the game in the top of the 6th inning, when Brandon Pounds homered to dead center field to make it a 3-3 tie.
The score remained that way until the top of the 9th inning. York batter Telvin Nash hit a double into right center with one out. Nash advanced to third on a fielders choice, and with two outs, York pulled a successful squeeze bunt out of their playbook. The batter, Eric Patterson, laid down a beautiful bunt down the third base line, and reached first in time to put the Revolution up 4-3. In the bottom of the 9th, the Blue Crabs threatened when with two outs and a runner on third, pinch hitter Anthony Vega struck out on a 1-2 fastball to end the game.
Following the tough loss, Blue Crabs Manager Stan Cliburn said โ We had three runs in the first inning, and failed to mount anything after it. We didnโt play a complete game, and thatโs what cost us the ball game.โ
