BALTIMORE, Md. — La Plata resident Benjamin Coombs, age 10, is helping bring a world of dominoes to life this week at the Maryland Science Center as part of a massive build featuring 80,000 dominoes. The display, themed Around the World in 80 Days, will take center stage during Domino Day on Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the final topple at 2 p.m.

The public is invited to experience Domino Day, which is included with paid admission to the Maryland Science Center. This marks Benjamin’s second year volunteering for the large-scale domino build. He’s working alongside his mom, Shariann Coombs, and a team of expert builders from the Maryland Domino Topplers—including Paul Nelson, Scott Suko, Alex Koops, and Derek Koops, all featured on FOX’s televised series Domino Masters.

“Benjamin has been building intricate domino projects since he was 4 years old,” said Shariann Coombs. “It has been a joy seeing his creations and building alongside him for the larger domino projects. He even conducts his science fair projects around understanding the mechanics of dominoes.”

“My favorite part of the week is building with very experienced domino builders,” said Benjamin. “It’s exciting to watch it topple even after all the hours put into building.”
The Maryland Science Center’s Domino Day is known for combining art, engineering and storytelling through kinetic design, with teams spending days preparing the visual spectacle for one massive final fall.

For Benjamin and his fellow builders, it’s more than just dominoes—it’s their way to enjoy creativity with patience and precision.
Benjamin also runs a YouTube channel, BigBroDomino, where he shares videos of his creations with viewers worldwide.
