WALDORF, Md. — A 13-year-old girl was airlifted to a Washington, D.C., hospital Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene near St. Charles Parkway and Post Office Road in Waldorf.

The crash was reported around 7:45 p.m. Callers told 911 operators the teen was lying in the roadway with what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder. Investigators said vehicle debris was found near the scene, and witnesses reported a car, possibly a black Acura continuing toward the Gallery Place area without stopping.

Emergency crews requested a medevac, and U.S. Park Police Eagle 1 was called to the scene. Engine 31 established a landing zone in the parking lot of Thomas Stone High School, where the helicopter touched down. The teen, described as conscious and breathing, was flown to Children’s National Medical Center with injuries that were serious but not considered life-threatening.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a suspected hit-and-run.
