5-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured In Lawn Mower Accident; $50K Raised For Recovery

OLNEY, Md. – The Olney community is showing overwhelming support for a 5-year-old boy who remains in critical condition following a severe lawn mower accident earlier this month.

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Gibson Rivera Theimer was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after being seriously injured in the incident. According to family updates, he tragically lost his right foot and sustained significant injuries to his right leg, from the upper thigh to the foot. His treatment is expected to involve multiple surgeries, skin and nerve grafts, and a long rehabilitation process that will include the eventual need for a prosthetic limb.

A GoFundMe campaign launched in the days following the accident has surpassed its $50,000 goal, receiving over 850 donations as of May 16.

“Gibson’s road to recovery will be long and difficult,” the family wrote on the fundraising page. “His family is facing overwhelming medical expenses and needs our support during this heartbreaking time.”

The page urges anyone who can to donate and support the family through Gibson’s extensive medical journey. “Any amount can make a meaningful difference,” the message reads. “Together, we can help ease the financial burden and show Gibson and his family they are not alone.”
