62,000 Square-Foot Calvert County Gun Range In The Works

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. – On July 25, 2023, the variance for a potential 62,000 square-foot gun range in Calvert County was approved in Circuit Court with the assistance of Steve Oberg as the attorney,  which was announced by the land owner Jason Scaggs.

With approximately 12 months of permitting to go through, according to Scaggs, not many details have been released, and changes can still be made since they are still in the very early stages of the process.

However, Steve Piazza, the range owner who has been working on the project for over five years, told The BayNet that one of his main reasons for building the range is to offer the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office a better area to train. Currently, deputies have to train at the Appeal Landfill, which is outdoors and doesnโ€™t offer much room to get quality training.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

  1. “… one of his main reasons for building the range is to offer the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office a better area to train. Currently, deputies have to train at the Appeal Landfill, which is outdoors and doesnโ€™t offer much room to get quality training.” . . . . Oh? So nothing for the taxpaying people to train and to maintain gun competency? There must be a lot of soft men working for the Sheriff that they can’t train outside, where the majority of law enforcement interactions occur.

โ€œโ€ฆ one of his main reasons…”. Key words: One of.

Don’t try and read into the single comment, Dan. Be glad a safe shooting option will be coming to Calvert County. ๐Ÿ™‚

Grow some thicker skin…or take some initiative, open a shooting range of your own, and make the main (only?) reason to be for ‘the taxpaying people’.

Hope you are able to take full advantage of this range once it’s up and running. Cheers.

    2. ^^^^It says ONE of the main reasons not THE only reason…. I have trained at FLETC and Quantico almost all of our training is indoors. I don’t know a better way to train on how to clear a room than to have a room to clear. Maybe you can come help them out you seem to really know a lot about weapons training and defensive tactics.

    3. why don’t you go practice golfing and trash talk at a trash infested, smelling stench of a place.

  2. Thank you Steve for sticking to the vision in such a long and drawn out permitting process. Your business will be a great addition to the county and us who want to shoot locally.

  3. A message to the gun enthusiasts: Annapolis has to preserve\ defend our gun rights. The 2nd amendment is not limited to guns. 1 way to do this, in addition to voting for someone whos going to be responsible about it is to make sure someone can be a candidates treasurer should someone who will protect the 2nd amendment decide to be a candidate. There are would- be candidates who don’t have a treasurer. DOn’t you want to get back to the 1900s, when you didn’t have to fill- out 25 pages worth of paperwork to buy a gun?
