68-Year-Old Male Transported To Trauma Center After Being Struck By Race Car

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — We are receiving reports of an accident that took place earlier this afternoon at the Maryland International Raceway that sent one to a trauma center.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on August 22, first responders were alerted to reports of a traumatic crash at the raceway, involving a 68-year-old male who had been struck by a race car. 

Upon arrival, crews discovered the victim was conscious, alert, and was bleeding but not seriously. He had been struck in a “possibly dangerous body area” according to first responders. 

The patient was transported to the Capital Region Trauma Center with likely non-life-threatening injuries.
