On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Charles County Commissioners join the State of Maryland and the nation in celebrating October 2015 as the 70th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations (UN) Charter.ย ย  The UN is an international organization consisting of 193 member states, guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding charter.ย

The charter provides an opportunity to reflect on the UN history and its enduring achievements.ย  The charter spotlights where the UN, and the international community as a whole, needs to increase its efforts to meet current and future challenges within the areas of peace and security, development, and human rights.

Charles County recognizes the importance of the UN for the welfare of people near and far, and joins the international community in celebrating its past and looking forward to its future.ย ย
