LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Christopher James Jones, 29, of Lexington Park, is being held without bond following a reported assault that resulted in felony charges and an active protective order, according to authorities.

St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an apartment in Lexington Park Feb. 22, 2026, for a reported assault. Upon arrival, officers documented injuries that they reported were consistent with the victim’s account, including a visible lump on the victim’s head.

According to charging documents, Jones allegedly grabbed the victim around the neck and choked the individual while stating, “I can kill you.” Authorities also allege that Jones threw the victim against a door, causing the head injury observed by responding officers.

Court records indicate that Jones has an active protective order against him as of Feb. 24, 2026. He has been charged with first-degree assault, a felony offense, and second-degree assault. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 17, 2026. Jones is currently being held without bond pending further court proceedings.

If convicted, first-degree assault in Maryland carries a maximum penalty of up to 25 years in prison. Second-degree assault carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500.
