crime scene in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Authorities are searching for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that left one man dead and a juvenile injured early Wednesday in Annapolis.

Officers responded around 7:40 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Clay Street, where they found John Simms Jr., 36, of Annapolis, suffering from fatal injuries. A juvenile, whose identity has not been released, was also assaulted and transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore with non-life-threatening injuries.

By Wednesday evening, detectives had secured an arrest warrant for Roscoe Jerome Jones, 31, of Oxon Hill, charging him with Simms’ murder and the assault of the juvenile. Annapolis police are working with U.S. Marshals to locate and apprehend Jones, urging the public to report any sightings but not approach him.

“I’d like to thank my deputy chief, my command staff, the community, and the men and women in uniform for their hard work in solving this case,” Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson said in a statement.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Jones’ whereabouts to contact Detective Courtney Moore at 443-714-0088 or Detective J. Liebross at 410-562-7520. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to the U.S. Marshals tip line at 1-877-WANTED2 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-756-2587.

The investigation remains active.
