MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – Friends and supporters of a woman seriously injured in a motorcycle crash at Maryland International Raceway are rallying behind her recovery, raising more than $31,000 through a GoFundMe campaign launched over the weekend.

Miljenka Franken, 45, of Aruba, was critically injured during an event at the Mechanicsville track on April 25, 2025, and was airlifted to a hospital in Washington, D.C. She later underwent emergency surgery for severe injuries to her back and spine. According to loved ones, the crash has left her paralyzed from the waist down.

“She is an incredible wife, mother, and friend to so many,” read the campaign description. “Her smile and spirit is contagious.”

Franken, who is known for her active lifestyle and positive outlook, now faces what her supporters call “a huge challenge” — navigating life after spinal trauma, managing complex medical needs, and eventually returning home to Aruba, where much of her extended family lives.

The fundraising goal has been set at $75,000 to help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, and transportation needs. As of May 1, more than 240 donors had contributed to the campaign.

“This is going to be a long road, but we have no doubt she can do it with help and positive energy,” organizers said. “She is in the United States without her parents, extended family, and longtime friends.”

The GoFundMe page emphasizes that every donation, no matter the size, will directly assist Franken’s care and recovery. Those wishing to donate can visit: gofundme.com/f/support-miljenkas-recovery-journey.

Franken’s crash was first reported by The BayNet shortly after the incident, which took place during a racing event at the Maryland International Raceway. Emergency crews responded quickly, and she was transported by medevac to receive immediate treatment.

The community’s outpouring of support is a testament to the impact she has had on those around her — both at home and abroad.
