LA PLATA, Md. — Get ready for a little movie magic at Port Tobacco Players! The local theater is rolling out “Curtain Call Cinema,” a new series bringing beloved classic films to the big screen between live stage productions—and they’re kicking things off with a fan favorite.
The debut screening is set for Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at 7 p.m., featuring the 1987 adventure-romance-comedy “The Princess Bride.” Tickets are just $5 for all ages, with $1 popcorn and bottled water to keep things simple and fun.
With “Curtain Call Cinema,” the theater aims to keep the community coming in, even when the curtains are closed on stage plays. Organizers say it’s all about giving families and neighbors an affordable night out—with a touch of nostalgia.
“We are bringing the PTP theater back to its original roots by bringing classic movies to a full cinema screen,” the group shared on Facebook.
And what better way to kick things off than with “The Princess Bride?” Directed by Rob Reiner and based on William Goldman’s novel, this PG-rated cult classic blends swashbuckling sword fights, fairy-tale romance, clever comedy, and a whole lot of heart. It stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, André the Giant, and Billy Crystal in a film that’s beloved by every generation for its charm and endlessly quotable script.
“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, “The Princess Bride” is a film best experienced with a crowd—laughing, quoting, and cheering together.
Tickets are available online or at the door (if seats are available), and more movie nights are on the way. Future titles will be announced as the series continues, so stay tuned for more big-screen fun. For tickets and showtimes, visit ptplayers.com.
