
LEONARDTOWN, Md. — According to court filings, Tony David Wald, 38, of Lexington Park, was arrested by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 4, 2025, pursuant to an arrest warrant issued in connection with a 2024 case. Wald was indicted by a St. Mary’s County grand jury on one count of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property and attempting to elude a uniformed police officer.
Court documents allege that on Jan. 20, 2024, Wald committed a first-degree assault and two second-degree assaults involving multiple individuals at the Morningside Lane Apartments. During the same incident, Wald allegedly damaged a laptop belonging to St. Mary’s County Public Schools, with the total damage valued at less than $1,000, according to charging papers. Following these events, Wald reportedly attempted to evade a uniformed police officer by failing to stop his vehicle after receiving visual and audible signals to do so.
According to a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office report filed in court, Wald was initially charged with one count of first-degree assault on a Department of Corrections employee, four counts of second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property and attempting to elude police.
No additional details regarding the investigation or arrest have been publicly released. Wald remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings. His jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2026, in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court.
Under Maryland law, first-degree assault is a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Second-degree assault is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 10 years in prison per count. Malicious destruction of property under $1,000 is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000. Attempting to elude a police officer carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
