Mara Rice, based in Huntingtown since July 2023, grew up in northwest D.C. and lived in various parts of the country before moving to Southern Maryland after earning her Master of Public Policy at UC San Diego. A lifelong writer and politics enthusiast, Mara brings professional and academic experience across multiple genres to her journalism, focusing on how political decisions affect residents’ daily lives—especially in areas with environmental or labor impacts. She also enjoys investigative and analytical reporting that sparks discussion. When she’s not reporting, Mara can be found trail running at ACLT, relaxing at Scientist Cliffs, enjoying the patio at Mexico Restaurant in North Beach, or visiting Mully’s Brewery, where she once worked. A passionate traveler and language learner, she is always eager to explore new places and connect with people in her community.
