Charlotte Hall, MD – State authorities are investigating an attempted arson fire that occurred Saturday, Aug. 19 at Southern States in Charlotte Hall. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the incident at the store off Three Notch Road occurred around noon.
“Unknown suspect[s] intentionally ignited paper products of the floor next to the merchandise,” a deputy fire marshal reported. “In addition, the suspect[s] attempted to ignite gloves which were hanging on a display rack.”
No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $20. The fire was not sufficient enough to activate either the smoke alarm or sprinkler system.
Anyone who may have been shopping in the store between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. is asked to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6831.
