St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce (SMCCC) Business After Hours event

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — On Jan. 22, 2025, the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce (SMCCC) held its January Business After Hours event at Viking Axe Throwing, located inside Action Lounge and Billiards at 25470 Point Lookout Road, Unit F. The event brought together local business leaders and community members for an evening of networking, camaraderie, and even some axe-throwing fun.

“It was a great turnout for our January Business After Hours hosted by Viking Axe Throwing,” the Chamber shared on Facebook. “Attendees were able to warm up throwing axes and knives. A great place to have family fun or business networking.”

As part of the event, the Chamber held a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Business Education Community Alliance (BECA) Scholarship Fund, which helps local students pursue higher education. According to SMCCC Board Chairman Jimmy Hayden, the raffle is a regular feature of these monthly events.

“The chamber manages the BECA Scholarship Fund that several businesses use,” Hayden explained. “Every Business After Hours, we do a 50/50. And 99 percent of the time, the winner donates the money back to the scholarship fund. Just so happened I was the winner this time, and I donated it back to the scholarship fund.”

The Chamber’s Business After Hours events are held on a monthly basis, typically on the last Wednesday of the month. Each event is hosted by a different Chamber member business, providing opportunities for members to showcase their services or venues.

“Any Chamber member business can sign up to host one,” Hayden said. “They would just have to reach out to the Chamber office to do that.”

Members can stay informed about these and other local events by visiting the Chamber’s online calendar, which also features events hosted by Chamber members. “Anyone moving into the area or looking for things to do can search that calendar,” Hayden added.

Viking Axe Throwing, located at Action Lounge and Billiards in Leonardtown, offers a unique recreational experience that combines skill, competition, and fun. The venue served as an ideal backdrop for this month’s networking event, allowing attendees to connect with one another while trying their hand at axe and knife throwing.
