ATLANTA, Ga. – Last night, President Joe Biden (D) and former President Donald Trump (R) squared off in the first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle. The event, held at CNN’s studios in Atlanta and moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, covered critical issues including the economy, healthcare, and foreign policy.
Economy at the Forefront
The debate opened with a fierce exchange on economic policies. President Biden boasted about his administration’s success in reducing unemployment and increasing wages, emphasizing efforts to rebuild the middle class. “We’ve created millions of jobs and brought manufacturing back to America,” Biden stated, highlighting the impact of his economic policies.
Former President Trump, however, criticized Biden’s approach, blaming him for high inflation and increased national debt. “Under my leadership, we had the strongest economy in history,” Trump claimed, promising to restore the economic conditions seen during his tenure with tax cuts and deregulation.
Healthcare Debate Intensifies
Healthcare was another major topic of contention. President Biden defended the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and proposed expanding it to include a public option. “Healthcare is a right, not a privilege,” Biden asserted, emphasizing the need for affordable healthcare for all Americans.
In contrast, Trump reiterated his stance on repealing and replacing the ACA, although he did not provide specific details on his alternative plan. “The ACA has failed the American people,” Trump argued, promising a more efficient healthcare system.
Diverging Foreign Policies
On foreign policy, Biden emphasized his administration’s efforts to rebuild alliances and address global challenges like climate change and international security. “We’ve restored America’s leadership on the world stage,” Biden declared.
Trump criticized Biden’s foreign policy as weak, particularly in handling relations with China and Russia. “We need a strong stance against our adversaries,” Trump contended, promising a tougher approach if re-elected.
Age and Competence
Given the advanced ages of both candidates, questions of competence and physical fitness were also discussed. Trump questioned Biden’s mental acuity, suggesting that he was not fit for the presidency. Biden, in response, emphasized his experience and stability, contrasting it with Trump’s tumultuous tenure.
Memorable Exchanges
The debate was marked by several sharp exchanges. Biden, addressing Trump directly, stated, “Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place.” Trump, in his characteristic style, responded with enthusiasm, “Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!”
The debate set the stage for a highly contentious and closely watched election season. The next debate is scheduled for September 10, 2024, on ABC News.

Their performance last night was unprofessional and childish. It seemed to be mainly based on personal attacks from both sides, exaggerations and lies. As Americans, we should be very concerned that these two are basically our only choices for the highest office in the land. I don’t think I am alone in thinking I don’t want either of these choices. This country has got to have better candidates to offer.
Biden looked so lost up there. Who’s really running the country?
some say Obama is, that he never left office. Its ok if you think Sasha + Malia look like the Nesbitts, like the Nesbitts are really Sasha + Malias parents. 1 of them recently renounced being an Obama. Hmmm let me check that — Blanchard Nesbitt yeah its not blank check, its Blanchard
theres going to be another 1 7/12 at 8PM/ (Rumble). Good question, who will show- up? It should not be thought that Free + Equal is giving inferior candidates a chance, it should be thought that Free + Equal doesn’t push candidates like the press pushes candidates. The reason only Rs + Ds have a chance is because the press pushes/ endorses them. Free + Equal gives everyone who should have a chance a chance. They’re not inferior candidates + what they have to say should be said. The reason other partys exist is because they do what Rs + Ds won’t do. They talk about stuff that Rs + Ds don’t talk about. Raw milk is not legal in MD and the list goes on. Randall Terry is a candidate zz(Constitution Party ) and you should see the shocking commercials hes showing.
Forgive me for noticing: we haven’t had the Republican or Democratic National Convention, yet, so neither 1 . Why a debate between the 2 of them when the deed isn’t done?
the 7 candidates, or however showed up, were on Rumble the other night. All 3+ hours. https://rumble.com/v56o6np-free-and-equal-presidential-debate-at-freedomfest-2024.html Randall Terry had some grrovy stuff to say. Go free and equal(=)! Its decent of Free and equal to give the candidates a chance to express their views, something the press doesn’t have the manners + decency to do. The press pushes the candidates it wants elected, otherwise it would give all 7 of them airtime, as Free and Equal does.
about Donald Trumps choice for VP, theres a short list + 2 are known on it + 1s a a mystery. For what its worth, I’d like to see Ben Carson be considered. From a criminal justice reform perspective: could Ben Carson be repeated? Do the laws in Detroit allow his life to be repeated? That is, is he allowed to come into the world, or is it illegal? Is someone allowed to be married to 2 people at once? and do both have to know about it? Are girls allowed to marry at 13? Thats repeating Ben Carson. We have so many laws in our society, it is stifling. Kind of like we need to have kids of unmarried parents + kids of married [parents, because both perspectives are good for society to hav.e I get concerned we are losing valuable perspectives in our society because the law is trying to clean things up that maybe don’t need to be cleaned. Ben Carson can probably tell you that someone doesn’t deserve to go to jail for 5 years for stealing a ham sandwich from a church.
JD Vance, not to be confused with JP DeGance
Biden is talking about dropping out. What I’d like to see him do is hold his horses, whether men do that or not + hold off until the National Convention, then decline the nomination. We voted, those of us that did, for biden / Harris, not anyone else. This isn’t getting popped on us, is it? This is what we expect, so lets not lower our expectations.
Biden/ Harris are not interchangeable. That it, Biden/ Harris $ is Biden Harris $, like a joint checking account. Only the 2 of them can spend it. If someone else steps- ion. If 1 of the lesser known candidates does well at the DNC, they can’t spend Biden/ Harris $.
what is going on is surreal a miracle? + I’ll leave it at that.
go smile somewhere else. Could someone please tell the delegates we agreed to Biden/ Harris + not anyone else. Some of us didn’t even agree to that.
am I expecting something thats not going to happen? Maybe. Its the story of my life. What happened between Trump + Pence that Trumps hmmm that Pence is not going to be his running mate? What has Trump said, if anything about it? Shouldn’t we know? Di d they have a falling- out that Trump/ Pence have said no thank you to round 2?
Delegates, Biden Delegates: What are your options, what are your choices? If you’re told something is realistic/ not realistic, that doesn’t mean you should be sympathetic towards it.
