INDIAN HEAD, Md. — Indian Head’s newest bakery just announced its grand opening event for the weekend after Thanksgiving. The grand opening will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, and Sunday, Nov. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include some tasty samples and fun activities.

Blended Bakery, located at 4840 Strauss Ave. in Indian Head, will kick off the festivities with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29. The event will also serve as a holiday kickoff party, and guests are invited to enjoy the complimentary hot cocoa bar, warm up by the fireside and roast a s’more, and enjoy the dessert bar. Guests can also decorate a holiday cookie.

Anyone interested in the event must RSVP on the bakery’s website. RSVP instructions are right on the homepage. Registrants will also receive a voucher for a future gluten-free treat.

Blended Bakery opened their doors earlier this month. They specialize in gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free treats, and will also be participating in holiday markets this season.

“I’m excited for the relationships we’re going to build with the community,” owner Kat Tan said. “There’s a real need for our product. And because people can get sick if they eat the wrong thing, people have to know they can trust us and know our products are safe.”

Tan said she and Chef Lo, a trained pastry chef and the “magician” behind all the baked goods, have been working to create products that are not only safe, but are warm, delightful and delicious.

Tan also added that Blended Bakery is not officially gluten-free certified, but does use all gluten-free ingredients, so “the possibility of cross-contamination is extremely low.” They do also use nut-based products like almond flour, but will have allergen-friendly treats.

She said that her team has done events all over the DMV, and they believe Southern Maryland is underserved when it comes to gluten-free and sugar-free bakeries in particular. Most of the market is served by home or cottage bakers, and she hopes to build community and bring a warm, friendly bakery experience to those who need something a little different.

“We’re here to help anyone who can’t enjoy regular treats,” Tan said.

Blended Bakery is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving. They will be closed Friday to prepare for their grand opening. Follow the bakery on Facebook for updated hours.
