PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Bowie man is scheduled to stand trial next month on multiple misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop and arrest in a Prince Frederick Walmart parking lot, according to police reports and court records.

Donnell Maurice Little, 40, is charged with resisting or interfering with arrest, obstructing and hindering, and failing to obey a reasonable and lawful order.

According to a statement of probable cause, a Calvert County sheriff’s deputy was conducting patrol checks at about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Walmart located at 150 Solomons Island Road when he observed a black Dodge Caliber driving slowly through the parking lot near the landscaping and garden area. The deputy reported the vehicle appeared to be attempting to avoid detection by maneuvering between parked cars in an area with low lighting.

Police said the vehicle stopped in the middle of a traffic aisle, briefly blocking traffic, prompting the deputy to activate emergency equipment and approach. Little allegedly exited the vehicle and began walking toward the deputy before being instructed to stop.

The deputy reported that Little refused to provide identification or a driver’s license, stating only that he worked at Walmart. As the interaction continued, police said Little became increasingly agitated and failed to comply with repeated instructions.

When the deputy attempted to place Little in handcuffs, Little allegedly resisted, tensing his arms and pulling away. Officers reported that Little kept his hands tucked against his chest and refused multiple commands to place them behind his back, resulting in a physical struggle before he was restrained.

Police said Little continued to resist while being placed into a patrol vehicle, refusing to sit inside despite repeated instructions. He was eventually transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.

During the investigation, authorities determined the vehicle’s Maryland temporary registration was not valid and was associated with a different vehicle. Police said the car was uninsured and that Little’s Maryland driving privileges were suspended due to child support noncompliance. The vehicle was towed, and the registration plate was seized as evidence.

Court records show Little was released on his own recognizance on Jan. 16. His trial is set for Feb. 18, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
