NEWBURG, Md. — The Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department is aiming to make waves this weekend as it hosts the Hellcat Big 10 Bowfishing Tournament along the Potomac River.
Teams of up to four shooters will gather Saturday, Sept. 13, for registration and a captain’s meeting before heading out on the water in search of trophy blue catfish. The competition begins after sundown, testing both skill and stamina as participants hunt the heaviest and most abundant catch.
By sunrise Sunday, Sept. 14, anglers will bring their haul to weigh-in, followed by a community breakfast and award ceremony. Along with top honors for blue catfish, organizers promise mystery pots, side contests, door prizes, and raffles to keep the friendly rivalry lively.
The tournament, held rain or shine, is open to both local teams and charters, provided all state fishing rules are followed. Only bows are permitted, making it a true showcase of precision and tradition.
So ready your arrows and sharpen your aim—Newburg is calling this weekend.
