With State playoffs set to start Friday, the boys picture is shaping up.

St. Charles Spartans at Calvert Cavaliers

In a first round matchup in the Boys Maryland 2A South region, the Spartans of St. Charles (5-17 Overall, 5-8 SMAC) travel to Calvert to take on the Calvert Cavaliers (5-17, 4-9). St. Charles, in the schools first basketball season, chalked up wins against Leonardtown, Patuxent, Chopticon, McDonough, and Great Mills. They were led in scoring by junior guard Sean Scott, with 13.8 points per game.

Calvert notched up 5 wins against Chopticon, St Charles, Northern, McDonough, and Leonardtown. They sport senior guard Brendan Hempstead as their leading scorer, as he had 13.3 points per game. Fellow senior Keith Gross averaged 10.3 points per game.

Huntingtown Hurricanes at Decatur Seahawks

In the first round of the Boys Maryland 3A South region, Huntingtown will travel to Berlin, Maryland to take on the Decatur Seahawks. Huntingtown, with a 9-14 record on the season, was led in scoring by junior Bryan Easton with 17.0 points per game. His brother, Brandon Easton averaged 14.6 points per game.

Decatur had an 8-14 record on the season. They are a member of the Bayside south conference. As a team, they feature 3 seniors; guards Jalen Mumford, and Karon Purnell, and forward Aaron Dale Jr. There are no stats available for them as a team.

Stone Cougars at Lackey Chargers

In the first round of the Maryland 3A South region playoffs, Stone will travel to Lackey to take on a Chargers team that it has defeated in the two teams only matchup this season. Stone comes into the matchup with a record of 11-10 and a SMAC record of 9-4. They were led in scoring by senior center Isaiah Fluker with 11.2 points per game, while his teammate Darnell Taylor chipped in 10 points of his own.

Lackey comes into the matchup with a record of 14-8 overall, and a 8-5 record in SMAC. Senior guard Jordan Wood led his team in scoring with 14.5 points per game, and his teammate Bernard Douglas averaged 10.3 points per game.

Chopticon Braves at Crossland Cavaliers

In the first round of the Maryland 3A South region, the Chopticon Braves will travel to Crossland to take on the Cavaliers. Chopticon comes into the matchup with a record of 10-12 overall, and a 5-8 record in SMAC. Senior guard Pierre Mitchell led his team in scoring with 16.6 points per game. His teammate Austin Raines chipped in with 8.1 points per game of his own.

Crossland comes into the first round game with a record of 17-4, and a 13-4 record in conference. Their scoring attack is being led by senior guard Eric Landis, who is averaging 13.9 points per game, and junior Kelvin Sellman who is averaging 11.1 points per game.

Potomac Wolverines at Westlake Wolverines

In the first round of the Maryland 3A South region, the Potomac Braves will travel down to Westlake to engage in a battle of Wolverines. Potomac comes into the game with a record of 7-13 overall, and 7-9 in the conference. They are led into battle by senior guard Walter Broddie, who averaged 21.2 points per game. His teammate Daris Lawson came in second in the team with 13 points per game.

Westlake comes into the game with a 18-4 record, with a 12-1 mark in conference. Senior Omar Alston led their scoring attack with 17.8 points per game. His teammate Trevor English averaged 10.9 points per game.

This game is set to be held at Westlake High School on February 27th at 6:30 PM. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of the Chopticon/Crossland game.

Great Mills Hornets at South River Seahawks

In the first round of the Maryland 4A East region, Great Mills will travel to South River to take on the Seahawks of South River. Great Mills comes into play with a record of 8-14 overall and a 6-7 in conference. Senior Trevon Porter leads the Hornets into the game with 14.5 points per game. His teammate David Oliveras scored an additional 11 points per game.

South River comes into play with a record of 16-8 overall, and a 12-7 conference record. Senior Jalen Gillespie led the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. His teammate Aaron Anthony chipped in 9.1 points per game.

The game is set to be at South River High School on February 27th at 6 PM. The winner advances to play top seeded Annapolis.

Leonardtown Raiders at Broadneck Bruins

In the first round of the Maryland 4A East region, Leonardtown will travel to play Broadneck. Leonardtown goes into play with an overall record of 6-16 and 1-12 in conference. They were led in scoring by senior guard Sam Sweet who put up 17.9 points per game. His teammate David Huffman also chipped in 10.4 points per game.

Broadneck comes into play with a record of 15-6, and 12-4 in conference. Senior forward Roy Toomer led them in scoring with 17.0 points per game. Junior guard Emmett Davis also scored 11.3 points per game for his team.

The game is set to begin at 6 PM at Broadneck High School on February 27th. The winner of this game will move on to play North Point.
