LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Arts Council is seeking artists to design a community-driven mural celebrating Lexington Park’s Spanish-speaking population. Applications are due by June 9, 2025, at 5 p.m.

The selected artist or team will receive a $12,000 commission to design and install the mural at Pax River Village Center near El Rinconcito on Great Mills Road. The project emphasizes inclusive participation, with community members helping shape the mural’s themes through storytelling and photo crowdsourcing.

Open to all Maryland-based muralists, the initiative gives preference to residents of St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties. Artists are expected to have experience with public or community-based art, a commitment to collaborative engagement and cultural awareness. Bilingual skills in Spanish are not required but encouraged.

According to the St. Mary’s County Arts Council, “Through this public art project, we are striving for visibility, inclusivity and pride within the community, while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the Pax River Village Center.”
