SOUTHERN MARYLAND – The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC), a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, invites veteran farmers to a free, workshop dedicated to connecting them with critical resources, funding opportunities, and mentorship. The three-hour Veteran Farmers Workshop will be held on Monday, November 10, from 5 to 8 p.m.at the SMADC Office in Hughesville.

This no-cost event is specifically designed to provide a supportive space for veterans in agriculture to network with peers, share experiences, and learn about programs tailored to veteran-owned farming operations. Key topics include access to funding, land and equipment resources, and formal mentorship opportunities.

“Veteran farmers bring unparalleled discipline and determination to agriculture, and it is our duty to ensure they have the resources needed to succeed,” said SMADC Director Shelby Watson-Hampton. “This workshop is a crucial step in building a strong community and providing the practical support—from grants to mentorship—that helps these vital operations grow and thrive.”

Workshop Details and Registration

Attendees will build a supportive community of like-minded farmers who understand the unique challenges of military veterans in agriculture. The agenda includes:
•    Light snacks and refreshments to be provided, family friendly
•    Networking with fellow veteran farmers and agricultural professionals.
•    Presentations on available grants, loans, and technical assistance.
•    A Q&A and open discussion to identify specific needs and potential collaborations.

The workshop aims to help veteran farmers start, sustain, and expand their farming operations by providing practical insights from experienced speakers and peers.

The event will be held at the SMADC Office, 15045 Burnt Store Road, Hughesville, MD 20637.
