PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners authorized a 38-month renewal of the county’s Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (MSEA), totaling just over $1.8 million over three years.

Funding for MSEA comes from the allotted budget in the Department of Technology Services’ Contracted Services account and will begin immediately.

MSEA is a licensing program and service provider that offers support for Microsoft services. The program allows organizations of 500 or more people — both private and government — to license Microsoft products for an extended period and use them across different branches of their organization, rather than buying individual licenses for each group. Technology Services is responsible for managing and administering the licenses for the Calvert County government and responding to any issues that may arise within the organization.

This software is currently procured through Microsoft’s authorized reseller, SHI International, and the county will renew with them. The previous subscription expired on June 30.

Technology Services advised that the county should renew for 38 months instead of the typical 36 — a three-year period with a two-month extension. Adding the two-month extension moves the renewal date back from July 1, which is the start of a new fiscal year, to Sept. 1.

Technology Services Director Stephen Pereira said moving the renewal date back would lessen the administrative processing burden and alleviate workload during a busy time of year, though billing will continue on July 1 in 2026 and 2027.

The commissioners approved the request in a 5-0 vote.
