PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Prince Frederick, MD — The Arts Council of Calvert County proudly hosted its inaugural Gratitude Affair this past weekend at the newly opened Kocen Arts Center, marking a celebratory moment for the region’s creative community. Sponsored by Bay Wine & Spirits and Omnist Media LLC, the evening brought together patrons, artists, and supporters for an elegant showcase of music, visual art, and philanthropic spirit.
The event featured an exceptional live performance by acclaimed cellist Daniel Shomper, who captivated guests with selections from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 and Suite No. 6, filling the space with a soundscape that honored both tradition and artistry.
Attendees were also treated to a rare, intimate opportunity to watch painter Sandra Steedle create an original work of art live in the gallery. Her completed piece—along with other exclusive items—was offered in a private auction supporting future Arts Council programs and initiatives.
“This inaugural Gratitude Affair represents not only a celebration of the arts in Calvert County but a renewed commitment to creating meaningful cultural experiences for our community,” said Mickey Love, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Calvert County. “We are grateful for our sponsors, our artists, and everyone who believes in the transformative power of the arts.”
Arts Council Board Member Anthony Greene emphasized the long-term vision behind the event. “The Gratitude Affair is more than an evening of beauty and creativity—it’s the beginning of a deeper effort to connect this remarkable space with both past and future art enthusiasts. Events like this help us honor our artistic heritage while inspiring new generations to engage with the arts.”
The success of the Gratitude Affair reflects the growing momentum of the arts community in Calvert County and highlights the Kocen Arts Center’s emerging role as a vibrant hub for cultural expression.
