PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Prince George’s County Police Department, Calvert County Animal Control, and both volunteer and career EMS personnel recently participated in a two-day, hands-on Tactical Canine Casualty Care course. The course was led by Dr. Janice Baker from Veterinary Tactical Groups (VTG) and hosted by Calvert County Emergency Management.

Throughout the training, participants engaged in realistic and dynamic tactical scenarios that required quick decision-making and precise medical response. Using canine mannequins and advanced training aids, they simulated real-life working dog emergencies, learning vital skills to assess and treat injuries sustained by K9 officers in the field.

This intensive training ensures that our first responders are fully prepared to provide life-saving care to their K9 partners, who play an essential role in keeping our communities safe. A huge thank you to Dr. Baker and the team at VTG for their expertise and to all participants for their dedication to protecting not only human lives but their four-legged partners as well!
